Remember that the happiest people are not those getting more, but those giving more.

This Wednesday is your chance to give in a big way to your favorite Puget Sound nonprofits by participating in The Seattle Foundation’s GiveBIG challenge. Donations made on this day are eligible for a proportional match, so your gift will have an even bigger impact and you won’t have to do a thing but donate May 15.
Virginia Mason relies on the partnership of dedicated donors to achieve its unwavering commitment to patients and the community to transform the delivery of health care. The GiveBig challenge is an opportunity to support this patient-inspired health care through a gift to the Virginia Mason Foundation, Bailey-Boushay House, Benaroya Research Institute or all three:
Virginia Mason Foundation fundraising efforts help enhance and advance Virginia Mason Medical Center’s ability to transform health care while fulfilling the Virginia Mason mission: “To improve the health and well-being of the patients we serve.” Examples of this work range from the new Orthopedics Unit in the Jones Pavilion to the Concierge Cart bringing essential items, like reading glasses and cellphone chargers, to patients’ bedsides.
Benaroya Research Institute is an international leader in immune system and autoimmune disease research translating discoveries to real-life applications. It is one of the few research institutes in the world dedicated to finding causes and cures to eliminate autoimmune diseases including Type 1 diabetes, arthritis, lupus, multiple sclerosis, scleroderma and many others.
Bailey-Boushay House has provided compassionate care to people living with and dying from HIV/AIDS for more than 20 years. Started through grass roots efforts, Bailey-Boushay was created by the community to meet this essential need. This important work continues today and is extended to people dealing with life-threatening diseases, as well.
The Seattle Foundation’s GiveBIG is a one-day, online charitable giving event allows thousands of people to give generously to their favorite charities. GiveBIG was designed to raise money for the more than 1,400 nonprofit organizations that are profiled on the Seattle Foundation’s website.
Last year, during this 24-hour online event people made donations to more than 1,100 local nonprofits profiled on www.seattlefoundation.org. The Seattle Foundation “stretched” these gifts further, matching a share of every contribution with a pool of funds provided by corporate sponsors, individual contributors and the Foundation.
The 2012 Seattle Foundation’s GiveBIG campaign raised $7.43 million in online contributions for nonprofits. What a fantastic testament to the philanthropic spirit in the Puget Sound! Can you imagine how amazing the impact can be this year?
